The Portuguese notebooks that conquered the Guggenheim like to play with shapes and graphics.
Text: Mauro Gonçalves
Beatriz Barros realized she had a passion for office supplies, which became a business in 2015. Minimalist, functional and with concentrated doses of color, Mishmash took its first steps with notebooks. In an object that, for many, has little scope for inventions, the Matosinhos-based brand limited itself to playing with shapes and graphics in order to earn, in the first two years alone, a total of 100,000 euros.
The notebooks represent “99% of production” and are in more than 100 stores around the world. The personalization option continues to be the one that leverages the business and led the brand to conquer famous museums such as the Design Museum, in London, and the Solomon R. Guggenheim, in New York.
Designed and produced in Portugal, Mishmash notebooks result from the work of machines, but also by hands, in the case of stitched spines and the cut of separators, where the color is applied in the mouche.
