So-So

From popular Portuguese expressions, wooden toys and decorative objects are born.

It is already known that “dogs that bark don’t bite”, but there is at least one Basset Hound that, in addition, can be pulled around the house with a rope. And if there are those who are “slow as a snail”, there are also those who may have a fast snail to play with and even run races. All ideas from So-So, or “so-so”, another typically Portuguese expression that inspires the products of this brand of handcrafted wood products.
“We are architects and we have always been fascinated by the emotional connection that people develop with the house and with the objects that fill it. As a complement to the profession, we felt the need to create our own objects, which could punctuate these houses”, explains Maria do Rosário Santos, who together with her partner, João Paulo Marques, ventured through “self-learning” in the world of wood. , a material that revealed its possibilities through the exercise of architecture itself.
In the workshop, they start by using a proverb or expression to create a concept. Despite being inspired by a very Portuguese culture, they aim to have “a universal and contemporary aesthetic, appealing to anyone”. With the concept, they test the objects, adjust the scale, the details, and even add a postcard. Only the small scale of production allows each object to be so unique.
