Teresa Rego
With colorful illustrations, Teresa Rego celebrates nature – even in large, gray cities.
Text: Mariana Abreu Garcia
She lived in Guimarães, Porto and Slovenia, but it was in London that she found the artistic inspiration he was looking for. Teresa Rego was working in the field of architecture in Portugal when she decided to drop everything for her usual hobby – illustration – and move to the UK without a defined plan. During the three years she lived there, she earned a master’s degree in illustration at the University of Arts London, Camberwell College of Arts, and found that the city’s gray contrasted just right with her colorful illustrations.
Although her style is permanently changing, Teresa found an artistic language throughout her master’s, exploring the connection between natural spaces and built spaces, which coexist in the city of London. “There are green rooftops and large gardens in the middle of the city, there is a very positive relationship with nature. That’s what I talk about in my work.” Hence the mixture of geometric and organic shapes, as well as the various species of plants and flowers that she continues to draw, now in her studio, in the center of Porto.
