In an authentic Ribeira house, in September 2018 was born the first guesthouse of Gran Cruz.
There are seven rooms spread over four floors, most with a frontal view of the Douro and baptized, as it could not fail to be, with different families of Port wine, from reserve to Tawny. The tones of the drink in its different varieties – pink, white or ruby – also served as a reference to the decoration, which was in charge of Nano Design and committed the feat of camouflage televisions. No room is the same as the other and in each the Woman in Black, icon of the brand, was recreated by a different Portuguese artist, from Tamara Alves to José Emídio.
On the second floor of the building – dating from the seventeenth century and which was once private housing, warehouse of cafes and chocolates and even the seat of the football club Os Ribeirenses – is the fine dining restaurant of the duo José Guedes and Miguel Castro e Silva, with the right terrace in the famous stone balcony of Ribeira. For dinner, it is possible to book the tasting menu with five or seven moments, in a pairing with wines from Quinta de Ventozelo, which also belongs to Gran Cruz. It is advisable to leave room, however, for the bottle of Porto always left in the room, as a welcome gift.
