Margarita Pugovka’s resume is the unlikely cross of two skills. She has evidence given in the catwalks, and she’s been working to perfect herself in pastry for years. The technique comes from a “great love for sugar”, as she makes a point to emphasize. And if the idea of a child attached to sweets has nothing unheard of, looking at her today reveals a talented pastry chef, third place on MasteChef.
“I started without realizing well the pleasure this gave me. But that’s how I liked to spend time,” she says, referring to her childhood in Aveiro, after her parents left Latvia, when she was eight years old. “My mother was terrible at making desserts, although she cooked very well. Deep down, I started doing my thing to satisfy the urge to eat sweets,” she continues.
As a model, she began to travel as soon as she could and with the trips increased the lexicon of flavors and ingredients. She was 15 years old as Kate Moss and the same one meter and 75 of Carla Bruni when she set foot inside the fashion industry. “I was in a shopping centre eating everything I was entitled to – french fries with gravy and a kebab – and I was approached by a scouter to enter a contest. But I was determined not to sign up,” she recalls.
