There is nothing to deceive: as the name implies, Rodrigo Herédia’s new hotel (a former portuguese surfing champion) lies on the south coast of São Miguel, more specifically in the bay of Santa Cruz. This means that the whole accommodation has a privileged sun exposure and faces the sea, from the rooms to the glass room where breakfasts are served (until noon), passing by the wooden hut hidden in a corner of the garden and where massages and yoga classes happen, or the outdoor jacuzzi and the saltwater infinity pool. Every 15 minutes you can hear the bells of Lagoa’s Mother Church, and there is little more than the noise of the waves.
Contemplation and relaxation are the words of order, with 12 villas equipped with kitchenette available. The prime suites have private jacuzzi, the junior suites private pool on the terrace, and a bit throughout the hotel there are benches, chairs, screens and other pieces of furniture made from wood that came from the sea. Open in June 2019, Sul Villas also has a spa, treatment room with vichy shower and a menu of massages based on essential oils from the Azores.
