It was up to the grandson to fulfill his grandfather’s dream, here in The Place of Porto Covo (as in the Portuguese song). The dream was to open a bed and breakfast on a land bought next to Praia dos Pescadores but it always been postponed by “the day-to-day life”. Together with his fiancée, Inês Madeira, and after a first nudge from his father, Pedro Martins carried out the family project and in 2017 began to receive guests in the six rooms of the house.
In addition to the location, the guesthouse stands out for its luminous decor, in charge of Ark Studio (the same one that made the Prado Restaurant in Lisbon). “We wanted to stand-out from the rest of the offer in the village, which are houses filled with old furniture that are no longer wanted,” says Pedro, referring to the minimal environment they managed to create.
The grandfather may not have opened a bed and breakfast in Porto Covo, but he did open a bakery and that’s where fresh bread served for breakfast every day comes from. This, alongside a lot of other family products, from honey from Pedro’s beekeper brother, to his mother-in-law’s jam.
